A Bright, Modern Wedding at Hotel Shattuck Plaza in Berkeley, California

Sylvie and Chris wanted a nontraditional wedding with plenty of modern details and time to party. The day started with Chris and Sylvie getting ready in the same room at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza. No need for big reveals, they said, just a relaxed, goofy atmosphere that truly allowed them to be their understated and sweet selves. After a quick portrait session around the streets of Berkeley, they joined their guests for an extended cocktail hour in the Hotel Shattuck Plaza courtyard. The reception began with a video (edited by Sylvie!) that detailed their story through their close friends who read different chapters of their relationship. Sylvie and Chris then invited their family to stand with them for a short ceremony where their sweet vows and declarations of love had everyone in the room feeling teary eyed. Throughout the day, Sylvie and Chris had DIY'd hundreds of framed love song lyrics and famous quotes from a long list of musicians and authors. Lyrics and music was a fitting theme for Sylvie and Chris, who became engaged during one of their favorite artist's (Thao) concerts, when Chris had all of their friends hold up signs that read, "Sylvie, will you marry me?" Afterward, Thao gave them a shout out on stage and invited them backstage for a chat -- Sylvie and Chris's proposal was even included in the artist's music video later on!
