A Color-Block-Themed Wedding at Chukkar Farm Polo Club in Alpharetta, Georgia

Bixby Grimmett (24 and a motion graphics designer and illustrator) and Jared Hickman (25 and an animator) planned a playful alfresco fete with plenty of personal flair for their late-October wedding in in Alpharetta, Georgia. Chukkar Farm Polo Club offered the couple a blank canvas to truly make their own, not to mention dozens of horses, dogs, cats and pigs on the property (Bixby is a bona fide animal lover). The couple let their design expertise run wild, with a “Bauhaus birthday party” theme that guided all the decor decisions. This translated to bright colors, geometric shapes and a confetti motif that effortlessly enlivened the quaint, rustic setting. After exchanging vows under a canopy of colorful pendant flags, the newlyweds and their guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the lawn with a selection of beer and wine and a popcorn bar. A barbecue feast followed, complete with mac and cheese and smoky beef brisket. “We still dream of Grand Champion BBQ’s magical macaroni," Bixby says. "I had three servings!” The couple’s first-dance song was a complete surprise—it was written by their good friend and DJ, Jordan Thomas Gray. “It was creatively named ‘Bixby and Jared: Jixby.’ it made us laugh a lot, and we loved it,” Bixby says. “We had never heard it until we danced to it. It was him singing with samples from 'The Princess Bride' mixed in.” In lieu of traditional favors, the fun-loving pair opted for a giant cupcake pinata, which they filled with unicorn erasers, ring pops, temporary tattoos, nips and candy. “We broke it as part of the cake-cutting ceremony. We weren’t sure the adults would go for the spoils, but luckily they’re all kids at heart and everything got snatched up,” Bixby says. A tip from Bixby and Jared: “Have fun with it, and don’t let anyone cramp your style. Also, let your friends help you make stuff. Weddings are expensive, and people love to lend a hand.” —Libby MacCarthy
