A Bright, Bohemian Hindu Wedding at The Blue Dress Barn in Benton Harbor, Michigan

“I loved the idea of incorporating Indian traditions and the essence of such a vibrant culture in a rustic setting,” Paarul Chandra (32 and an emergency medicine physician) says of her and Kian Preston-Suni’s (29 and an emergency medicine physician) Hindu wedding at a restored dairy barn.

After booking their venue unseen, Paarul and Kian worked closely with the barn’s owners to plan the first-ever Indian wedding on the property. A custom bamboo mandap draped in fabric and florals served as the ceremony site for the pair.

For the groom’s baraat procession, Kian traveled among friends and family on top of a white horse. “Our groomsman taught guests some basic bhangra dance moves and we included the traditional drumming of the dhal,” Paarul says. “It was an amazing way to kick-start the wedding.”
