A Boho-Chic, Rustic Wedding at Kualoa Ranch in Kaneohe, Hawaii
Instead of having a classic beach setting for their destination wedding in Hawaii, Jacquelyn Smith (24 and in the US Army) and Robert Compton (27 and in the US Army) chose the Kualoat Ranch in Kaneohe—perfect for their boho-chic, rustic nuptial. “Rob and I wanted to stray away from a typical Hawaiian wedding on the beach and locate ourselves in another beautiful outdoor scene Oahu had to offer,” Jacquelyn says. “We chose our location because of the amazing backdrop the Ko‘olau Mountain Range and the rustic buildings used for movies over the years.” The ceremony took place outside on the lawn underneath a large tree, decorated with nothing but the natural environment with a backdrop of breathtaking mountainous views. Jacquelyn held her ivory and yellow bridal bouquet filled with roses, Peruvian lilies and baby's breath that her bridesmaids had smaller versions of, which matched the yellow rose boutonnieres worn by Robert and his groomsmen. At the outdoor reception, their 15 guests sat at one long wooden table draped in a burlap runner and set with mason jars that followed the rustic wedding style. The two-tier square wedding cake embodied the tropical island flavors, such as buttercream cake with lilikoi filling and coconut milk cake with pineapple filling. We loved Jacquelyn's strapless ivory Watters dress with a lace bodice, and the baby's breath and rose flower crown worn on top of her head that completed the free-spirited, bohemian look.
