A Bohemian Backyard Wedding in Sandusky Bay, Ohio

Amy Mattern and Seth Thomas wed in the Amy's father's backyard in Sandusky Bay, Ohio. "I wanted the day to be fun and eclectic, and I drew my inspiration from Australian backyard events I had seen on Pinterest, festivals and items from our home and travels," Amy says. Her stunning bohemian dress stole the show with its embroidery and fringe, plunging neckline and bell sleeves. She paired the dress with a dainty crown, a long veil and several pieces of custom jewelry. Seth's outfit—a light brown suit jacket with mismatched pants and a purple bow tie—was inspired by the James Bond movie Spectre. The ceremony took place beneath a driftwood arch decorated with flowers, macramé draping, a deer skull and a wine barrel holding props. Amy and Seth included a few traditional elements in their ceremony: a Native American smudging, Celtic handfasting and traditional ring exchange. Guests attended cocktail hour in the backyard—and drank beverages from a 30-foot Airstream camper converted into a bar—before finding their seating assignments. The escort cards were handmade leather keychains with copper name tags, hung from a copper nail on a large wooden slab easel made by the bride and her father. "The reception tent itself was decorated with bistro string lights, and geometric copper lanterns hung from the ceiling," Amy says. The tables were completed with gold chargers, dinner plates of bamboo leaves and copper plastic flatware. Instead of traditional table numbers, Amy hand-painted symbols—which correlated with a symbol on the guests' escort cards—onto geode bookends.
