A 1920s Themed Wedding at the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, Florida
Winston Poole (55 and works in digital media and technology) first saw Lori Johnson (33 and works in financial services) when he was driving on a Saturday night and proposed within one year on Thanksgiving Day. Winston asked Lori and her aunt to come into the living room that morning and got down on one knee. “Before I could get my yes out, my aunt had already answered for me,” says Lori. The next eleven months were spent planning a wedding filled with vintage flair. “I chose to have a roaring ‘20s theme because I have always admired the fashions of the ‘20s,” says Lori. “I have a strong connection to that era as if I was around then,” With this in mind, the couple chose a venue built in the same era, the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, Florida. Gold, champagne, cream and copper hues as well as feather accents were helped to bring the era into the couple’s beach wedding. They decorated the outdoor beach ceremony with lucite chiavari chairs and 14 foot pillars topped with white feathers to create their altar. “The flower and feather arrangements were spectacular and complimented the theme of the wedding nicely,” says Lori. Similar feather adornments were used in the bride’s bouquet and continued to pop up the couple’s reception decor. Inside the venue, gold and bronze archways were complemented with five foot tall whimsical arrangements of white feathers, hydrangea and crystals in illuminated vases. White curtains also surrounded rows of gold linen covered tables and gold chiavari chairs. “The Cathedral where our reception was held looked like a scene out of a the Cotton Club during the Harlem Renaissance era, thanks to the staff of Boca by Design,” says Lori. Each guest ended the night with a fun 1920s themed favor of either a colorful handkerchief in a vintage style glass bottle or a personalized wooden fan from Lori and Winston.
